They had that story last year and Sheetz' stance (IIRC) was their prices were in line with other stations in the market.

Yeah, it's a matter of because people will pay it. My parents (who live further out on 30) will not get gas in gettysburg. They're not in hanover all the time, but they're there often enough to plan to get their gas there on principle.

As do I davew, only I go west of Gettysburg, not east, IF I happen to be going that way for some other reason. 90% of the time I get gas in town because I'm there. It's mostly a wash if I make a special trip to get gas to save 10 or 15 cents. The gas to get there pretty much eats up the savings. That being said, you can usually save over the price of gas at Sheetz or Sunoco in town at Direct to You at the corner of High and West St. Cash only, but they even pump your gas for you there.

We try to avoid town during the tourist season and venture to Chambersburg, Hanover or Waynesboro to shop, eat and gas up, usually the gas prices are 10 cents cheaper.
On a side note, now that construction has began on the new Sheetz near the Outlets, rumor has it that it should be ready to open around Oct.?, then the current Sheetz on Route 30 will be torn down and a new "SUPER" Sheetz will be constructed!

They had that story last year and Sheetz' stance (IIRC) was their prices were in line with other stations in the market. But Redlock, Everyone ELSE looks at Sheetz's Prices, and then adjusts THEIR Prices! So, I guess technically, they all end up with the same prices. I guarantee you... As an Experiment, if all of the OTHER Gas Stations in the area were to Simultaneously Drop to $3.40 - Sheetz would NOT Follow Suit. They would STILL be more expensive than Hanover. The ONLY time I remember them being at the same as Hanover, was after there was a lot of hoopla over their Gettysburglar Prices. And THEN they silently, and slowly, slipped back northward to be at least 10¢ more per gallon.

By the way, When an Industry continually "Fixes Prices", isn't there some Law Against that?
When many of the gas prices in town are exactly the same price, wouldn't that be a form of collusion?
If all of us SignMakers in the Region got together and Fixed Our Prices, don't you think there'd be an issue?

If all of us SignMakers in the Region got together and Fixed Our Prices, don't you think there'd be an issue? It's collusion, and it's illegal, but i guess it's hard to prove. I can't imagine the expenses and real estate costs in gettysburg are a whole lot different than they are for hanover locations. I remember years and years ago, sheetz used to have the cheapest gas, I guess to get people into their stores. Now they are just as crowded, but there's no deals to be had anywhere in or out of their stores. I guess that's what happens once you get market share - you raise prices, because there's no other way to increase revenue once you've got the market saturated with locations. We have a dominant grocer here in the western part of the state, and they have really high prices. All of the other grocers are satisfied to have a mediocre business, in my opinion, and have high prices, too. I'm sure they make more that way than they would if they all tried to compete. When you get close to the city of pittsburgh, the discount grocers are sort of turned off (walmart, etc), because they don't want to deal with the theft, so we get to stick with the high prices from all of the full service grocery stores unless one wants to spend an extra hour driving another 10-12 miles each way (yeah, on the weekends, it takes that long because there are no direct routes and everything is stoplights and strip malls). Anyway, I guess they get to make the market and if they don't want to have low prices, their competition has no incentive to do it, either.

It should be interesting to see if the NEW Sheetz, 2 Exits away, will get in lock-step with the existing Sheetz, or compete. The New Sheetz ALSO has two other gas stations to compete with - all within sight of one-another. We'll see!

"Philliesfan" mentioned earlier that the Sheetz at 30/15 will be torn down and a new "Super Sheetz" will be built when the new one at 15/97 opens. Curious....what's a Super Sheetz??

Yesterday I passed a WaWa's across from the Dutch Wonderland and their regular price was $3.57, then passed the Rutters outside Thomasville and they were at $3.62.
In response to buckeye, not sure exactly what a "Super" Sheetz is other than I hear it will be larger and alsco a drive-up window (as opposed to the "drive-thru windows or walls") LOL.

I think a super sheetz also includes the car wash.

That's it? I guess I live almost next to a super sheetz out here in W. PA - it's the third closest gas station to my house - there are probably five within a mile (this is the burbs). It's almost new, and I was excited to see it coming in, remembering from my youth that sheetz gas was always cheaper.
The one thing that can be said for it is that of the automatic car washes, the wash is the cheapest ($4). but there's a wand place half mile away that $1.50 will give you enough wand time to almost wash and rinse two cars. I hope they don't renovate it any time soon. Main drag car wash places are $8-$10, but they are on expensive real estate.
Anyway, sheets is no cheaper for gas here vs. anywhere else, but the pumps do offer you 20 cents per gallon off right now if you want to wash your car for $4. So if you get 10 gallons, the price of the car wash is now $2.
Sams gas is about 10-20 cents cheaper than sheets at any given time, depending on which way prices are moving and how fast, and 30-40 cents cheaper for premium (for those of us unlucky folks who have one or more turbocharged cars that run funny on regular)

The Super Sheetz is going at the new location and will have a drive thru(Drive Thru Orders are faster then walking in and ordering) and a Car Wash. And possibly a Sheetz Creamery too. Altoona and Shippensburg sell beer so this one may get a license to sell it too.
