Kind of an extreme measure, to create a whole new board just to remove the hockey thread, with the highest number of views in Boroughvent (or Borovent) history. Let's Go, DEVILS!

Exhibition games started tonight, with Philly beating NJ in a shootout. Bill Guerin? That's gonna take some getting used to.

Yeah, I only saw from about half of the third into the OT and shootout. Missed two fights as well. Briere put a rocket over the goalie's glove to tie it up at about 15:00 of the third. No Brodeur, no Zajac, no Parise, no Kovalchuk. Didn't see Hartnell or Carcillo. They said Pronger is still rehabbing and is day to day.

WINNIPEG -- Simon Gagne admitted being a bit nervous before his first game with his new Tampa Bay Lightning teammates.
He had nothing to worry about.
The veteran forward netted a goal and two assists as the Lightning defeated the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 in NHL exhibition action Wednesday night.
"I'm not going to lie to you, I feel pretty good right now," said Gagne, who was traded from Philadelphia in July for Matt Walker and a fourth-round pick in next year's draft.
"It's a new chapter in my life. I was a little bit nervous before the game. Most of the time when you're 30-years-old you're not nervous before a pre-season game, but I was."
Gagne started his career in Philadelphia and played 10 years with the Flyers.
"Now it's a good feeling when you're able to help the team to win and be able to score one goal and get a couple helpers," Gagne said.
"It's good for the confidence. It definitely helped to (make me) feel better. I'm pretty happy that the first one is done and went well and now I can focus and just be more relaxed now."
Tampa is 2-0 in the pre-season after a Tuesday win against Dallas, while Chicago was playing its first game.
The Lightning also got goals from Steven Stamkos, Blair Jones and Winnipeg-born forward Carter Ashton in front of a crowd of 14,092 at MTS Centre.
Captain Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp, both born in Winnipeg, replied for Chicago.
Toews said he enjoyed seeing family and friends in Winnipeg, but the fun is over for now.
"It's nice to be home, but it's time to get down to business and get back to pre-season," Toews said.
Toews praised the play of teammate Igor Makarov, who assisted on his goal.
"He's that type of player, kind of like (Patrick Kane), that once he gets the puck you notice him right away," Toews said.
"I think that's what makes him special. If it's not right away -- obviously he's going to keep going as a player -- I think he could definitely do some damage at this level."
The Lightning had a 1-0 lead after the first period, although it took them a while to strike.
Gagne got things going when he shot the puck toward the net from the corner as Stamkos was coming around the back of the net.
Stamkos swatted at the puck and it went past veteran netminder Marty Turco at 17:57.
Chicago evened it up 49 seconds in the second period as Sharp went in on Tampa goalie Cedrick Desjardins and flipped the puck over him.
Ashton gave Tampa the lead on the power play when he got his own rebound and put it by Hannu Toivonen, who replaced Turco midway through the second.
The Lightning widened the gap to 3-1 on Gagne's goal at 1:03 of the third period, but Chicago answered back 33 seconds later with Toews' goal.
Jones netted the game's final goal at 14:12.
Chicago outshot Tampa 33-29. The Lightning were 1-for-7 on the power play while the Hawks went 0-for-5.
Tampa heads to Edmonton for a match on Thursday, while Chicago travels to Detroit for a game Friday.

Leighton hurt his back. Boucher is the Flyers starting goalie. sick, sick, shoot out goal. This team is insanely talented right now. Your thoughts on Zherdev so far? Oh, and the goalies will sink this team once again.

Giroux said Zherdev is the most offensively talented player he's played with. He will score and he will be a liability defensively.
Bobrovsky looks to be the real deal. I understand the band aid plan in goalie a little better having seen this kid play. That being said, we are not nearly good at the position THIS year to make a serious run. There will be another starter, not currently on this roster, before the end of the season. Mark it down

Mark it down As long Zherdev puts in a little effort on the defensive side of the game and back checks some, I'm fine with. In that regard, he's no more a liability than Briere. Bob has to play in the AHL for a while, at least half the year. I'm in agreement about a goalie that isn't on the current roster.

Leights on the self for at least a month with a bulging disk. More disheartening is that Lappy confessed to having symptoms over the summer and has basically taken himself out of the lineup. Doesn't sound good for one of my favorites.

Lappy was told to retire. I don't think there's been a player play for the Flyers for only one year that I like more than him, it's a shame he has to go out this way.
I know the season starts tonight, but I just don't care right now. College football, NFL, and the Phils have my attention over the NHL.

I actually hope he doesn't retire from a team standpoint. If he retires we have to take his full cap hit this season and next because he's an over 35 player. If we can LTIR him instead his salary won't go against the cap (think the last 3 years of Rathje's contract). I love Lappy though, always have.
NHL is my primary sport. NFL is secondary. I hate baseball. I find it mind numbingly boring.
Hope the Flyers ruin the Pens grand opening tonight.

The Flyers are going to do right by Lappy, there's no way they LTIR him. If they did and he retired the league would investigate and they'd get penalized for circumventing the cap.
The NHL used to be my primary sport, but the on ice product (regular season) has just been shit since the lockout. It's college football and the NFL now.
By the way, Bob get's the start tonight.
