Have seen several on-line employment ads by Wegmans. Their website shows no future retail location in Hanover, PA. Keeping a secret?

BEER what could be better oh yea CHEESE . According to the Hanover paper today it is NOT happening. Wegmans plays in a much higher-end market than Hanover. From the get-go, this struck me as pie-in-the-sky. I didn't immediately discard the possibility but the chance of the speculation being correct seemed remote at best. If you've traveled around and seen their locations, you know what I mean. Hanover and the environs don't have enough money or population for a Wegmans.

Seems like a hard compete with all the discount type shopping stores around and the areas income level.

Maybe I'll go and blow my paycheck there. I hear you can buy BEER, and cheese! I can spend hours and hours in there, just spending my money and dreaming about how the rich people live, buy some caviar at $120/lb, you know stuff like that. BTW, just yanking your chain guys. Although I think a Wegman's would be awesome in Hanover. Maybe when the Wegman's truck is parked at the Hampton Inn we can get them to open up and have a truck sale.

The number of wealthy people in Hanover and surrounding areas is very compatible to other local "well to do" areas. I personally would welcome a nice place to shop in the area...you don't see a " the people of Wegmans" website on the Internet (LOL)

I think a lot of people around here know exactly where the Mechanicsburg Wegman's is.

Hanover actually HAD one of the highest per capita millionaire %'s in the world many years ago. Not far behind Kuwait before they got invaded. I am going back a ways though. Lots of old $ in Hanover.
I do LIKE the Mechancisburg Wegmans. I know where the beer and cheese is. Other than that the place is hard to shop in. Does not flow well for me.

A few millionaires would not persuade Wegmans to locate in Hanover. They are looking for lot more customers than that. Grocery stores make their money on volume - their profit margin is typically well below %5. The owners of Hanover Shoe can only buy so many groceries - unless they start feeding the horses a much different menu.

I THINK it would do OK. Better than most markets of like size due to the above average effluence found in the area.

Well........maybe not. Still a Wegman's would be cool though.

Better than most markets of like size due to the above average effluence found in the area. The effluence average is definitely highest on Fairfield Road and Mummasburg Road these days. I don't know if they would shop @ Wegmans though.

Will apply and attempt an interview. I smell a rat in Denmark..or...um..er...Hangover! Given that there's no building even under construction, and we hardly could miss it as Wegmans tend to be 100K sq.ft. minimum, are stand-alone and distinctive in style, it seems odd to be hiring those kind of positions already. Not saying you're wrong, just seems peculiar to me. Let us know what happens.

He very well could be correct even though they are mum on the ordeal, there is plenty of open space with paved roadways already in place in the new complex.
Jobs listings would be in the paper if there wasnt some credibilty to the rumored story, unless they are advertising in Hanover's version of a newspaper for other locations, which does seem doubtful, but never not a posibility.

my understanding is that a big part of their calculation is going someplace that is accessible to many areas and the cost to build is low. Look at the new location in Frederick, that is not high rent... They know people will come to them... AND, when all is said and done while they do have a lot of high end stuff, their everyday stuff is cheaper than Giant. Their veggies are fresher and cheaper, their house brands are better and the prices are comparable to any local grocery. I think that people would be surprised if they do the comparison shopping, it really is not all about the environment (although that does make it a super nice shopping experience... ) My sister who is on a very limited income, actually did the math at the one in VA and she found that it is cheaper in the long run... I just wish the ones in PA had a wine section, Wegman's wine section is the best, second only to their cheese!

After replying to one of the two ads, I see the confusion : "Hanover TWP, Bethlehem, PA"...lol Key word = Township. There ya go. Nah, two hours each way ain't worth the drive! Mechanicsburg, being a mere half hour from Gettysburg, is an easy drive . Why not a Wegmans in YORK?
