In Monday's paper the Times interviewed the new Times editor Harry Hartman. One statement by Harry has generated more LTE's in one week than I've seen on any one topic in the past year. Harry's statement? Now, keep in mind that this question is standard for all "Getting to Know You" interviews in the Times, and most rational people would understand that this question is figurative. You would not believe all the butt hurt "progressives" who took offense to that statement, one even demanding an apology to the Times readers, otherwise he would "look elsewhere" for a local paper. Really? No wonder our country is drowning in a sea of political correctness. For all you butt hurt "progressives" out there. Get a grip. PS (I'm not a Republican, and I don't watch Fox news)

As an indpendent, I agree with him. I've seen more "i'm entitled to yours" and "i can tell you what to do because you're too stupid to know on your own" in the last 15 years than I've ever seen. And I don't like it.
The absolute most obnoxious class of folks out there - to me - is the "other peoples' money is unlimited" group who has no concept of numbers or finances at all. Can't stand it.
Being in gettyburg no longer, the other class of progressives that annoys me is the small town progressive who thinks they are cutting edge, and who (in my mind) often pushes their views more because they like to irritate people and assume intellectual superiority.
(I don't watch fox news, either, or any of the CNN/MSNBC/FOX type stuff at all. It all just polishes news you've heard already, and puts a spin on it).

Well, I'm glad the paper chose to print my response. I was surprised at the butt-kicking that Harry took from people who didn't like the fact that the editor of THEIR paper didn't agree with him. Why would just liberals, ah, progressives, be the only ones to voice an opinion?

I really haven't a CLUE what my "Affiliation" is - other than "ASSHOLE!" I'm a Conservative/Liberal/Democratic/Republican/Progressive/Regressive Asshole. So the only Pigeon Hole you can place me in is that one. By the way, if it is a "kick-in-the-pants", then that would be a misnomer anyway, wouldn't it. It should be a kick in their PANTIES! They have too much sand in their vaginas.

MORE Letters to the Editor in today's Times. Below is the horrendous statement that started it all. By the way, the quote is - " Anyone who classifies themselves as a "progressive." "Hell, as I stated earlier, I don't even know what I'd "classify" myself. I believe that ANYONE who classifies himself as ANYTHING, is doing themselves a great disservice. Once again, if you pigeon-hole yourself, you place yourself at odds with "THEM" - whoever "THEM" is! Mr. Hartman, welcome to the TRUE Gettysburg. If you had said this in Pittsburgh, no one would be causing such a maelstrom. But here in Gettysburg, once these people get a hold of an issue, they squeeze the life out of it (or into it, in this case.) Such a small-minded group of people to take a statement and turn it into their Life's Mission to make Hartman pay for it. If I were Harry Hartman, my "Notebook" entry this Saturday would be: Dear Progressives, You have proven my point.
Sincerely, H.H.
You're only 43 yrs old, Harry. You can do without the coffee, but you need to enjoy the pleasures of hamburger! A rare steak is great, but a Great Hamburger is a different animal altogether... well, actually it is the same animal, but - you know what I mean. Besides, it tastes a lot better than Crow

wow...if the progressives comment didn't get the "fans" going, the "five minutes with GWB" and praise of him sure must've.
And the drudgereport comment.
I've never seen anyone before say they don't like music. that's sort of like "I don't like ice cream".

Oh good grief, I see the smallest mind in all of Gettysburg once again graced the pages of the Times with an LTE today. Hmmmm.......isn't he good friends with Jim Paddock? Oops, did I just say that? Why yes I did! Good Lord these people need to get a life!

Why yes I did! Good Lord these people need to get a life! You are speaking of Dan Siderio. He was probably aching for a cause so he could write LTEs again. We've missed his commentary.

I admire Hartman, spoke his mind and his beliefs and then had the balls to allow the newspaper to publish the letters criticizing him. Takes some guts. The Times is a much better paper since Hartman and Hayes took over.

I always read "Getting to Know You" and Hartman had the same effect on me that many others had - he's a bit of a bore. I don't care about most of his comments but he doesn't like or understand music??? How very sad.
I still don't like George W. but different strokes for different folks.
If Mr. Hartman has an issue with progressives (no problem on my part) who does he like? Repressives, regressives, depressives (is that a real word)?
At least the newspaper is better so keep on truckin' Mr. Hartman. You can't be all that bad.
