Getysbg mentioned a "Zoning Notice" in another Post. I may have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating. The PURPOSE of a Zoning Notice is to Alert the Public that someone wants to Build/Modify/Re-Zone/Whatever... at the location where the "sign" is posted.... Did you see what I did there?
NO? Of course not! In Adams County, when a Property is "Posted" for a Zoning Notice, there is no regulation stating that the notices should be LEGIBLE, just that they be posted. The reason Getysbg couldn't read the sign, is because the County doesn't require that it be LEGIBLE. Most "Notices" I've seen in the area were typed on a sheet of 8.5 x 11 PAPER, in letters no larger than "this", and placed in a plastic sleeve, stapled to a stick. After one or two days, the sheets curl up, and the plastic condensates to the point of ridiculous.
I think it's time to REQUIRE that these Notices actually get NOTICED! In Baltimore County, (and MANY other regions) there were regulations on the size of the signs, what they had to incorporate into the verbiage, and with good reason - The public needs to be informed of the Purpose, Date of Meeting, Time, Location... Adams County needs to get with the program and require PROPER NOTIFICATION, instead of secret little pieces of paper that say absolutely nothing. I guarantee that when the Business wants to advertise what will be "Coming Soon", they wont be writing it like this

I think they are also required to post these legal notices in the Gettysburg Times, at least once. I've decided I should at least skim these notices every day. So far most are sheriff sales, unfortunately.

I've posted this before, but here is the Public Notice website: pa.mypublicnotices.com/PublicNotice.aspAlways good to go over once in a while. But we shouldn't have to rely on the Public Notice to try to find out what the Zoning Notice is all about. Even if you see the piece-of-paper-on-a-stick, you may not find a corresponding Notice in the paper or online. The property owners, and the attorneys involved, may not be easy to decipher in a notice. The "XXX Holdings Corp" means nothing if you are trying to see if Target is the store in question. Information at the Point of Interest, onsite, is the best way to communicate.

Now that we all have cameras, it would be nice if boroventers took close up pictures of the notices and posted them in a thread. I'll bet more people would read the notice posted online in a thread than would read it hanging in a sleeve.

It is a great idea Davew, and I hope Members consider doing this. It does take a bit of courage though. A long while back, I took a photo of one, at the corner of the Peebles Shopping Center. I briefly considered just stopping my car at the corner and putting the flashers on. (I also considered handing my camera to the homeless guy standing there for donations.) I ended up driving around through the Burger King parking lot, and crossing the grassy knoll, through the hedges, fording the stream, up the hill... okay, so it wasn't THAT difficult But it did take interest, commitment, and effort. I believe we have the right mix of people on this site that would consider doing this. I just don't want anyone to do anything that would be dangerous, just to get a photo.

Or people could just go to their townships meetings on a regular basis if they want to know want is going on in their township
