Here is the Link to the Adams County Ballot Specimen for November 5th Elections: www.adamscounty.us/Lists/Announcements/CustomDisplay.aspx?ID=64&ContentTypeId=0x010400808EA1AB09C4B04D9B787D6DE7D0AF6CPages 25 - 31 Cumberland Township Ballots Pages 75 - 81 Mt. Joy Pages 99 - 103 Straban Township I only listed three of the "Local" Townships, but they are all in the 112 page Publication. In this "Off Year" of Elections, it's hard to get excited, but it's too easy to get complacent. The entire population of Adams County (or 10% of them) will be electing either Mike Redding or Jim Muller for Sheriff. Is this the only County-Wide Elected Position up for grabs?
As important as electing a Sheriff is, it looks like most, if not all of the other contests are more or less Regional. There is no noise, no grumblings, no drama at all. But remember, "Complacency" could very well enable the election of Jim Paddock as Cumberland Township Supervisor - and that would be a sad thing.

I've been looking at the different signs popping up in the area. It looks pretty even between Muller supporters and Redding supporters. I thought that there would be some sort of forum for candidates, but is it too late for that? Muller would not benefit from a debate because Redding has nothing to lose from it, but Muller does. I've heard some of the reasons why we should vote for Redding, like the waste of money in the Muller Sheriff Dept. for dogs and ponies.
But do any of you think there are enough reasons to replace the current Sheriff with a new one? If so will it be enough to make people go to the polls? When I see the "re-elect so & so" to an elected position, I think it's not fair to the new candidates. It make it too easy for voters to just choose the same-old-same-old without having to think.

The "same old same old" reason of voteing is the reason we are in this mess. I HATE people who vote due to a name! Do you know the assholes agenda? NOPE but you know his name! Now I understand why we are in the situations we are in....

Now I understand why we are in the situations we are in.... It's a double-edged sword. There are Elected Officials that continue to do a good job, day in and day out. Some of them deserve to remain in Office because they are doing their job well, but we probably don't even know which ones they are. They just do their job, represent, research, and vote - not grab for the microphone. Those who are clamoring to get to the top of the heap are probably the worst ones for the job. But, those flying under the radar can be either a good thing - or a very bad thing... we can never really know. Voting for a "Name" can be as dangerous as voting for a "No-Name". John McCain was a "name" who lost to Obama.. The "Government" doesn't LIKE it when the American People are allowed to make a choice, as they did with Obama - and they will punish him (us) until we elect "One of Them" again.

What I don't get is why selecting a Sheriff, a Judge, or a Comptroller is divided into 2 parties. What I mean by that is, they are apolitical positions that we are forced to choose under a banner of democrat, republican, or independent. The person in those positions has nothing to do with politics, or at least they shouldn't.

Venter, in both of Obama's elections, the results were basically 50/50. So as far as choices go, he did not win overwhelmly

Elected Officials may gain some sort of notoriety during their term in office - especially if they do an outstanding (or horrendous) job. It's entirely possible that they could run for a higher office at some time in the future. So I guess that's where having a Party Affiliation can be a benefit to him, or even to the party itself.

So as far as choices go, he did not win overwhelmly Oooh... touchy If a "No-Name" can even get CLOSE to a "Name", then there must have been a reason for his successes. The people are evidently looking for change, and they do it by Voting. Sometimes they are right, sometimes they are wrong. President Perot, Nader, or LaRouche anyone!?

Lifesaver, They may not know what Party Obama is affiliated with, but I guess the question should also be "Why does it really matter?"In the end, it really shouldn't matter since he became the President to represent ALL of America... not just the Democrats. Maybe the people voted for him because of who he seemed to be, and not because of a Political Party they had to choose from. He shouldn't be a D or an R - he is the HMFIC! As far as knowing things that are important, I can still remember my old MD Drivers License number, old phone numbers, shitloads of numbers and insignificata... but for the Life of Me (literally) - I can't tell you my Blood Type! Honestly! I'm not bragging, I'm not kidding, I don't like admitting it - but it's a bizarre fact! I know it is just a Letter and maybe + or - , but every time I commit it to memory - it disappears from my memory bank But I do know that President Obama is a Democrat. What Party was Teddy Roosevelt? See, I know that answer... but just don't ask me my blood type!

The reason I posted the video is because I feel it helps support gburgers717 observation. My guess is that isn't the only thing about Obama, or really our government in general that these people were ignorant about. So, the next question is do these people vote, and should I be glad if they don't? It's a sad situation no matter what the answer.
