Oh... I forgot to mention that this was in the Out of the Past section of the Gettysburg Times - 75 Years Ago!
Those damn whippersnappers! Probably needed it for Reefer.

"The nickel then flies out suddenly, nearly choking the boys each time."
I love that part
Didn't STOP them though, did it? Parking Meter problems in Gettysburg 75 Years ago!!!

Didn't STOP them though, did it? Parking Meter problems in Gettysburg 75 Years ago!!! Sounds like it was only a matter of time before it would be a self-solving problem.

Sounds more like a Wilkes-Barre meter problem.
Gettysburg’s youth probably just smashed the meter heads with a sledgehammer back in the 30’s.

Leeroy, I read it thinking that the Meters were in Gettysburg, but the students were from Wilkes-Barre (it was in the Gettysburg Times, after all). But after re-reading the article, I believe you are right. Besides, Gettysburg Parking Meters were probably ALWAYS A QUARTER! You just got a whole lot more time for a quarter back then

For those of you who might be interested in past editions of The Gettysburg Times, they are cataloged by Google way back to the year 1909. It makes for some interesting reading about the past. You can access these editions by going the The Gettysburg Times website and selecting "Google News Archive" by the search function at the top right of the page. Just enter what you're looking for and enjoy. Or, you can follow this link ( news.google.com/newspapers/p/gettysburg?nid=7_FrD3gH8REC&dat=19340118&b_mode=2&hl=en ) and browse previous editions of the paper.
