Well, just to let you all know I am still kicking up here in the chilly Susquehanna/ Chemung Valley, I'll comment on the CMA's from last night.
First, George Strait definitely deserves the Entertainer of the Year Award, in my opinion. Hey, how many recording artists have had 60 number one hits? Taylor Swift can put her Grammies, CMA Awards, shower shoes, flip-flops, birth control pills and IUD under MY rack, ANYTIME! I don't care if she's been banged more times than a screen door in a hurricaine, she is talented and hot! Miranda Lambert: DITTO! George Jones tribute by Strait and Jackson was RIGHTEOUS and well deserved.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!
Other than that, all is well in the hinterlands at the foot of the Finger Lakes. We had a great gardening year in spite of the rainy cool Spring. Four 8' x 4' x 10" raised beds of mushroom soil and cow manure provided us with plenty of tomatoes, spinach, onions, lettuces, bell peppers, wax peppers, broccoli, assorted beans and peas, green and yellow squash, beets, cucumbers and several herbs. Last week we picked the last of bell peppers. As an experiment(as seen in the Earth Mother News), we converted two of the beds to "hoop gardens" using pvc pipe and 6 mil sheet plastic. If they can do it in Minnesota, we can do it as well! Hoop # 1 was planted about a month ago and is already producing onions. Spinach, carrots and beets are up as well. 3 varieties of lettuce were planted in Hoop 2 last week. Diane canned and/ or froze about 60 jars of assorted tomato sauces and soups, pickles of all kinds, jams and jellies, corn on and off the cob, apple sauce, salsas, green and yellow beans, beets and chopped peppers and chopped onions. Most of that came from our gardens.
The milk can business is thriving and framed railroad pictures are doing well in a few consignment shops and craft/art shows. I am not doing as many flea markets any more but did set up some of my stuff at the weekly Sayre Farmers Market this summer and fall. One local physician bought about a dozen milk cans for his Little League team members! Sponge rubber was placed in the bottoms and around the inside necks of the cans for bat storage. Neat idea. Of course the kids' favorite team logos were applied to the can exteriors.
The CLL is under control and as long as I take my medicine, it will remain pretty much dormant. I do NOT want to reawaken it!
Right now I am in Houston for a few days visiting my kids and will return to the "Yukon" Sunday. Can't believe how much I saved by flying Southwest AL! And, was able to bring down two large luggage bags filled with framed Rail photographs for a local restaurant here: Cypress Station Grill. That paid for one air ticket!
OK, gotta work on son's electric window motor in his pickup. It's about 50 degrees today but back to high 70's tomorrow and rest of week.
Love to all and write if you get work!
