Today, is the United States Marine Corps, but tomorrow November 11th is Veterans Day.
Although the treaty of Versailles officially ending World War I, "the Great War" was not signed until June 28th of 1919, all fighting ceased between the Allied nations and German on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, the end of "the war to end all wars" was over in the eyes of those who were fighting.
In November of 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day, to recognize the service of those who served in that great war and dedicated to promote world piece.
In 1954 the word "Armistice" was changed to "Veterans". Still today it is observe on the actual day, no matter what day of the week it falls on.
Please take some time today, and think of those who have served this country since 1776, many placing themselves in harms way to protect the freedoms we have today, and all prepared to do so, should they be called upon.
Think of the thousands who have given their lives so that we can enjoy the life we have today, and the freedoms we enjoy and exercise daily. It is because of these men and woman that we have the freedoms to do such things as live where we wish, worship where and how we wish, and to freely express our opinions on any topic without fear of reprisal.
Please pray for the families of the 459,997 who are unaccounted for and listed as MIA/POW since our revolution. Pray that their families will soon know the status of these loved ones and have closure.
Pray EVERY DAY for the safety of those who today serve in the military, at home or overseas. Pray for those who are in harms way in hostile areas, and for those who are prepared to go into those areas. REMEMBER, YOU SLEEP SAFELY EVERY NIGHT BECAUSE THESE PEOPLE ARE DOING THEIR DUTY AND PROTECTING YOU. Give thanks that this country has always had and always will have young men and women willing to put their lives on the line to protect us.
A special request, please also pray that they will all soon return home safely, and that the time will come that no young person will ever have to go into harms way to protect our way of life or those who are unable to protect themselves.
Remember we may not always agree with why these young men and women are sent to do their duty, but we must always support and pray for them. MAY GOD BLESS THOSE WHO SERVE AND THOSE THEY MUST LEAVE BEHIND.
