Hmmm... it is a bit fishy. The new place never made it; the guy sank tens of thousands into it (probably fifties of thousands); the place sits completely renovated, but vacant, for a few more years; and eventually there's a fire.
Nope. Nothing to see here. Damn firefighters probably got there too fast though.

The writing on the wall for the newer enterprise at the "Bon-Ox", was when the owner put all his money into the inside of the business, yet wouldn't cover up the old sign! He used banners from the beer distributors to announce "The Freckled Radish" which was a stupid fucking name to begin with. Compound that with a very bad logo, and that spells "Identity Disaster". I think some "business people" are too cute for their own good, and that panned out for the Radish.
A cute name will NOT get people into an establishment. A proper SIGN will help tremendously to at least get them in the door, but once inside, it's up to the establishment. Confusing people by allowing the former name to remain prominent, with poor identification tacked beneath, was a double-whammy.
Part of the problem with the OX, from what little I can recall, was its reputation. By not cutting ties with the former, it was destined to fail. But who listens to old opinionated sign guys with 40 years experience? Certainly not 30something entrepreneurs.

When it first opened years ago(I can't think of the name it was) it was a great place to go. Big enough to bring in some decent bands. Restaurant was nice and completely separate too.
