Just in case anyone cares, I'll be moving into my new place in Jersey on December 1. I've been promising for two years that this will happen and it finally is. I'll miss this place but, if I want to have a good life, this is not the place to start building it. The people I have met are great. They've made me feel more at home here than in my hometown. I appreciate that immensely and thank you.
I've been informed that permits have been pulled to have a farewell parade for me and that June 19 will be a new Gettysburg-only holiday, Matt Cockburn Day. That's very kind of those who organized it, but unnecessary. Still, I accept the honor. Rumor has it that my favorite president in history, Barack Hussein Obama, will give the keynote address at the first Matt Cockburn Day observation.
If I may be so bold, I wish that Gettysburg as a whole would do one thing and that is to wake the hell up to the fact that you live in the 21st Century. Preservation and conservation are good things, but not at the expense of the prosperity of your people. I've long wondered why it seem that an uncomfortable majority of the people my age here seem to be, well, trashy, for lack of a better word. I brought this up one time to a native local and his answer was that most of the people who were exceptional in any way got the hell out of Dodge the first chance they got. That's not good for the area. So, the powers that be need to change their attitude towards business and private property rights in order to make it alluring for exceptional people to stay or come here and remain.
Just had to get that off my chest. Don't know where I get off thinking that leaving here makes me somehow able to preach.
Good bye and good luck! See you on my visits back.
Matt

Matt best of luck to you in your new location. And yes, unfortunately there is nothing for young people here, so most relocate.
When you return for visits, I am sure there will be a drinking establishment around town that will be open, and perhaps we can meet for a drink or two.

Matt Best of luck Matt, and please keep in touch. You're like the son I never had, um wait, I DO have one. You're like the OLDER son I never had. LOL. Just one thought to leave you with. I don't know how many people that have left Adams County to seek bigger and better things. But something keeps drawing them back. In a way I was one of them because I swore I would never come back here after I finished college, and here I am, many years later. I truly believe that it is because there are some of the best, most genuine people ever here and since joining BV I have had the pleasure of meeting even more. Just come on home whenever you want, we'll leave the light on for ya! We will miss you

thanks Bill and Lifesaver.
I'm not so sure that I'd say I won't come back to stay, but it;ll probably be for retirement. I don't really want to go. I love it here. Like you said, the people are great, but, unfortunately, the power structure is moronic and listen to the likes of SSP and her gang. Once they start telling people like that to shut up and sit down, then they'll be started on the right path.
I'll be back more often than you'll want. I'll stay in touch.

Not another one of those people who will retire to Gettysburg and then spend their retirement trying to change it to what they think it should be?

I'll miss you. I wish you all the best. When you're ready to come back home, we'll try to arrange asylum with the NJ authorities.

Good luck matt. Hate to see someone go who is willing to stand up and speak out agaisnt the people who whine and bitch about anything new here as well as someone who hates most democrats as much as I do.
I hope you get what you want. I tell everyone now to chase THEIR dreams. 3 years ago I quit a high paying job with an international company to play a game for a living. Everyone said I was stupid/crazy and would regret it. None of them ever understood though that I didn't care if it didn't work out it was just my dream and that I wanted to take a shot in life. 3 years later and I'm still doing it.
Best of luck buddy and be sure to shoot us some funny videos from time to time. I still have friends asking me if you put any more out.

Well, Matt, this is what I get for being sick and not getting online. Old news; news that I've been waiting for and dreading at the same time. You've been a bright light through the clouds that all too frequently cover Gettysburg.
You have challenged me and tormented me and boosted me up and you've helped me grow as a person. Many have tried and few have succeeded. Congratulations for being among the few.
I sincerely hope that you find the success you so richly deserve. You will find happiness where ever you go because you make every place you are a happier place by being there. Oh, damn, you know what I mean.
I have a part of you in my home so you can be sure that I'll never forget you. I will chime in from time to time on Facebook just so your sane friends can ask you "Who the hell is that idiot?" and you can say "Just another nut from Gettysburg."
Damn, I'm at work and I'm tearing up. I wish you well Matt and I love you dearly. Take care and please keep in touch. Kiss Chloe for me.
