I am interested in hearing/reading what the folks running for commissioner are saying...if you know the website for a candidate please post it here. Someone stopped by here and left a brochure for Jim Martin. He has a website listed: www.jimmartin.orgI am looking forward to getting this group out.

arentzs, By "... getting this group 'out'", I hope you mean "preventing" him from getting himself elected in Adams County.
Sorry, but the last thing we need on the board is a "minister". I understand that he has been able to rally some troops from church, and of course, I have serious problems with that.

Ministers frighten me. No not my daughter - she wasn't a fanatic when she was preaching. But when ministers mix in politics I get a little bit nervous.

No other agenda...not sure what you mean by minister (unless you are saying Martin is?)...just wanted to know if anyone had links to people running for the seats that I could take a look at and see what they are saying so I can figure out who to vote for

At the most recent, March 9, 2011 Commissioners meeting, Mr. Jim Martin made quite a telling speech. It is available here, at just about the 22min 30sec mark. : vimeo.com/20847923 (it takes quite awhile to load, so please be patient. Maybe watch the beginning for a few minutes while the rest loads) Mr. Martin makes it very clear that he (and obviously his supporters) are not very tolerant of "alternative lifestyles". He speaks up to tell the Commissioners that he doesn't want the money that they give to the Adams County Arts Council - Star Grant, to go toward programs that support gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender lifestyles and agenda. First of all, my guess is that Mr. Martin DID NOT ATTEND this event, but was informed by someone else - and we ALL know how that kind of wildfire starts. Evidently there was a program on March 5th that was sponsored by the ACAC that was called "Let it Begin with Me", and I suppose the program dealt with alternative subjects. Some public monies are provided to ACAC for their programs, but I doubt very much that the Commissioners are able, or willing, to censor the use of that money. Mr. Martin mentions "Family Values". Just in case he is NOT aware, these gay, lesbian, etc. are indeed parts of SOMEBODY'S FAMILY!It may not be the direction that their parents had planned for their children, but they are FAMILY just the same. Should they be cast OUT of FAMILY because of their lifestyle? There is nothing "wrong" with them, their "lifestyle" was not a conscious "choice", any more than Mr. Martin CHOSE to be an asshole. And, if Mr. Martin had been made aware of TOLERANCE in his youth, he may have more COMPASSION for those of God's Children that have gone in a different direction. There but for the "Will & Grace" of God, goes he! Maybe HE should be stricken with gayness!? Or maybe someone close to him... perhaps?

Maybe HE should be stricken with gayness!? Or maybe someone close to him... perhaps? Now, let's see how amenable I would be to vote for a bigot like Mr. Martin. My father (sorry Mom) was a late blooming homosexual (I guess; I really don't know); my daughter (the light of my life) is a lesbian who is married with a step daughter; my niece is expecting her second child with her wife (their first child is the first child in the state of PA who bears both of her mother's names on her birth certificate); my daughter's half brother's son is gay; one of my brother's nieces from his first marriage is a lesbian. Mr. Martin - kiss my ass. I prefer - if I have to deal with jerks like you - all of my gay friends and family to people like you. You may not be aware of this but homosexuality is not a choice - it is a God given birth rite. Some people can accept their gift and some people try to pretend that they're straight. But know this - it is not a choice - it is a special gift from God. Deal with it.

The political signs are popping up like daffodils. Looks like we have potential double dippers vying for that taxpayer funded position. All I can say is anyone but Weikert and the two other twits who shoved the assessment down our throats or up our A$$e$, however you want to look at it.

I knew I should have saved the clipping. Does anyone remember reading a candidate profile in the Times where one of the GOP geniuses talked about enhancing county revenues by instituting a capital gains tax? Of course, this genius has no knowledge of exactly how this would be accomplished since even the state doesn't have a specific capital gains tax mechanism - and they would if they thought they could get aware with it. That would be a nice present for all of the seniors in the county. Where do they find these idiots - under the stones in Spell Checker's rock garden?

That's great, but not sure how that affects the day to day operations of Adams County government.

Maybe you should run then if you have all the answers........... Further more what does a capital gains tax have to do with senior citizens? I never saw anything about someone wanting a county captial gains tax but I did see where Weikert said he thought we should have a toursim type tax. It was about the only thing I ever heard the guy say I liked and agreed with. this is the only tourist destination spot I've been to that doesn't have one.

Because I won't be a resident of this county or state by January 1, 2012. Who would want to serve in a position that would have to listen to your BFF Dana or you whine on and on? 2. Because many seniors have accumulated savings and have them invested in stocks or mutual funds wherein capital gains taxes play a role come tax season. Many of them live off the income generated by those investments. Are you really that ignorant? Geezus.

What a shame you seem like you would do such a good job. I know you will be sorely missed here in PA I mean who will we have bitch and complain about everyone and everything. 2. No I'm not ignorant, heck I don't want a capital gains tax at all I just just didn't see why that would be such a big blow to seniors.

Well, actually you just admitted you were ignorant about the impact of capital gains taxes on seniors. Please note that there is a difference between ignorant and stupid. And just because I'm moving out of state doesn't mean that I will deprive you, especially you, of reading my "whines" in the future. As a matter of fact, the very idea of doing that to irk you amuses me. Have a good weekend.

You ok in my book. For the seniors, I know what capitol gains are and how they apply to people. The way i read your post was that they were targeting seniors. Through the internet I simply did not fully understand what you were getting at and thought I might have been missing something. Don't be so qick to get so snappy. The reason I wouldnt normally associate seniors with paying capital gains is because allot of the people know from your generation generaly didn't invest in their retirment and allot seem to rely on a penison and SS.

Well, I'm from that generation and I have never relied on a penis-on. What a disgusting thought. Is that your word for a dildo or a vibrator? ;D

I'm 50 years old and I've had my penis on for as long as I can remember. And I rely on it quite frequently....
