Sad. These are the same kind of people who "saved" my kids from having to play dodgeball in gym class.

I'm still a registered Dem and while I may not vote next year I've decided that I'm not changing my political affiliation.

Personally, I agree but for a different reason. I'm tired of hearing singers mangle "The Star Spangled Banner" when they attempt to belt it out. Gross and I'm not referring to Roseanne either.

Someone please help me. I have listened to the Star Spangled Banner thousands of times, and since I noticed this letter I went and read the lyrics. I can’t see anything “warlike” in them. Ok it was a poem written after a very significant battle of the War of 1812. BFD!!! If there are any complaints about it, they should be that it is a very difficult tune to sing, and of course as I recall it is based on an old English drinking song.

Catchy tune. I like it. Don't even try to offend me because I'm a Democrat. It won't work. I don't judge people by their politics...except for the TeaBaggers. Elevating Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann to a status above bat shit is frightening.

I just don't particularly care for it. I'll stand when it's played and I'll pay it the respect it deserves. But there should be some sort of respect shown by some of the fools who attempt to sing it and butcher it profoundly. Learn the lyrics would be a good first step.

I didn't accuse you of saying it was warlike, the idiot who wrote the letter to the editor said it is too warlike and should be replace by America The Beautiful. He claims it is not a proper song "for a country which professes to the Christian religion of peace and God's love." I believe we the country selected it and made it our national Anthem didn't we? Or was it chosen for us by someone else?

I didn't say that you said that I said it was warlike. You mentioned warlike in #6. I was simply repeating the comment you had made.
Does everything have to turn into a debate on BV? I'm trying not to comment much because we've regressed back to FT is a liberal so FT is stupid and she's a freak of nature.
Not saying that's your feeling but we've been down this road before. The difference now is that I don't give a flying rat's ass what people think of my beliefs any longer.
This is a free country and I'll damned well state my beliefs and if people don't agree with me that's cool. I'm not looking for validation from anyone. I validate myself.

FYI:
"The Star-Spangled Banner" was recognized for official use by the Navy in 1889 and the President in 1916, and was made the national anthem by a congressional resolution on March 3, 1931 (46 Stat. 1508, codified at 36 U.S.C. § 301), which was signed by President Herbert Hoover.
"We the people" didn't have squat to say about it becoming the national anthem.

It's so pathetic that we've allowed 2 or 3 generations of men to be women with penises. John Wes Culp should realize that the Star Spangled Banner, while warlike, is about the miracle of our surviving the British attack on Ft. McHenry. We were not prepared, D.C. was burned and yet we defeated the Brits, twice. It's about the resilience of America and its people. In other words, John, we can take a pounding, but our flag (and we) will still be there. I've always thought it was a beautiful song and always get chills when I hear it. Especially when done with balls like when the Marine Corps band does it. America, The Beautiful, is also a nice one. But too sissy-like to define us... although, as I said, we are becoming a nation of sissies, so maybe it's time for a change. Perhaps this would be a better choice.

Ok it was a poem written after a very significant battle of the War of 1812. BFD!!! If there are any complaints about it, they should be that it is a very difficult tune to sing, and of course as I recall it is based on an old English drinking song. I'll explain it. Like I said before, it's a song about how we beat the odds, essentially. It's a reminder of our might, but not the might of our government. instead it's the might of our people. Democrats HATE that. They want our people to need government so that they will always be in power. In order to achieve that goal, they must, like the Taliban did to Buddhist relics, destroy all pro-American relics, songs, stories and heroes. That's why they re-write history (Obama's campaign speech to Congress is a good example of that); why they tarnish strong American heroes like the Founders, Crockett, the Duke. They say it's to "humanize" them, but it's not. Otherwise they would show the blemishes of the heroes of the Left, which they don't. Now, they hate the anthem because it's about Ft. McHenry making it through the bombardment. America rising from the ashes, basically. That can't be, according to their narrative. America must be made ash, and only the Dems can raise it from said ashes, but not as it was before. Instead, as a utopia. Since all Democratic arguments are emotional, not logical, they must garner support by claiming it's warlike. The word "warlike" has a negative connotation and soccer moms everywhere will say, "Oh no! Please, save my Christ-child's virgin ears from that horrible stuff-- like you saved him from Dodgeball-- and change the anthem." It's not warlike. And if mere mention or an account of a battle or war must be stricken from the record, just like God must be, then we have lost our core, lost our history and, thus, our nation. Look into what caused the fall of the the Roman Empire and you'll see our present and future.

This thread has pretty much left me speechless from the top when our chief resident Teahadist started it. Props to FT for sticking her toe into this debate, I deliberately avoided doing so until now.
