I'm confused why Susan and her so-called preservation group are receiving this award. What did they preserve? The land isn't in the park's boundaries, the hotel and sports complex are forty-years old, and a former Boyds Bears facility is located across the street. There are also several locally owned businesses, a bowling alley, and campground in the area. Spin Doctor, you are confused about why they are getting a preservation award, and I am a bit confused by the Information statement on their new Save Gettysburg Facebook page. “founded 2005, all volunteer grass roots advocacy to benefit Gettysburg and Adams County, PA” What actions have they taken to “benefit Gettysburg and Adams County” other than to push their own personal agendas? I would like to see the list.

They preserved SSP's peace of mind, alas. I still think a water park on the other side of 116 from SSP's home would be an excellent idea. It would provide jobs, ratables and a new tourist attraction to draw visitors to Gettysburg. Even the Queen of Fairfield Road should salute those goals. Right? We need Deb and her colleagues to amend the zoning map if necessary to allow such a use.

You say the opening of the restaurants in the casino would hurt other restaurants. The casino would also draw a whole different crowd to the area on its own. Some would go out to eat in the area. It is true that some local patronage would shift to the new restaurant. How many other new restaurants/establishments also bring in a whole different clientele that would actually compensate for the business being taken away? The casino was a perfect fit here for us. Unfortunately the state thinks they found a more perfect fit from their perspective. Time will tell.

"We had to spend six years preserving our family-friendly community and our historic identity. This is a recognition of that." What has been preserved? We still have a hotel that is almost 40 years old, we still don’t have any new jobs, and we still have only tourism as our local industry. There is nothing new to bring and keep people in town. And I don’t know the numbers, but from what I saw in town this summer, I don’t believe we are going to see the tourism numbers up this year. they preserved the continuing death of Gettysburg

How many other new restaurants/establishments also bring in a whole different clientele that would actually compensate for the business being taken away? The casino was a perfect fit here for us. Unfortunately the state thinks they found a more perfect fit from their perspective. Time will tell. I go to charles town casino 2-5 days a week. I'm there from 6-14 hours at a clip. I have ate dinner one time. That was because my family came down on fathers day to eat and watch the horse races. I have filled my gas tank there numerous times. I have stopped at one of the two sheetz's there an un godly amount of times and gotten a drink or snack. I have ate at the fast food places there so many times that my garbage man probably wonders if I own stock in burger king, mcdonalds and taco bell. I've stoppen on my way home and gotten thai to bring home from Frederick numerous times as well a few other places. This bull shit about no one else getting business because the casino consumes it all is a crock of shit. I know a ton of people who also frequent there, they all do the same. I won't tell you I haven't eaten there as I have gotten a cheese tray or two and I'll order and iced tea while I'm playing but when it comes own to it, I prefer other things besides a 3$ hot dog or 14$ bowl of asian noodles. Another note: NCG tried to tell us about how these casino's comp the fuck outta you.... it's simply not true. I pay around 2k a month in rake to CT. I have not gotten one comp not one room offer nothing..... The only thing they reward is slot players and most of them comment on how shitty the rewards are. The casino's simply aren't comping players like they used to. The reasons are and they will boldly tell you this: 1. they don't need to because the casino's are spread out enough they don't have too 2. the state both pa and wv take so much of a cut from them they can't. From what I have been told even slot players need to drop between 100$ and 200$ before they are getting buffet comps. The room rates are high and most of the people who do visit say they stay in one of the other hotels around because the price is that much cheaper. as for their claims that they would hire dealers/floor from other places. I would say about 1/3 came from other places the rest are locals and I have gotten to know allot of the dealers really well. The dealers are white, black asian, men and women. They don't care they will hire you if you can pass the back ground check and get a gaming license. There are old people who retired from goverment jobs and still wanted to work to middle aged family people to young kids fresh outta school working there. As far as under age gambling. I won't say it's never happened but its hard as shit. They have people at every entrance every door way you name it they ID you and check any bag you have. I've been checked for ID 4 times in one day and have the same person check me time after time. When I make a comment or someone else does they will tell you they have to because the boss's watch on the camera's and they don't check a bag or ask for ID they get wrote up and it doesn't matter if they checked you before or not. It honestly gets annoying at times. Basically anything they (NCG) claimed was a total crock if sal or any of them think I'm wrong come on down and walk around for themselves.

I was recently in the Ocean Downs casino in OC. I think the size is similar to what was planned for Mason Dixon. I think 750 slots. Very nice facility adjoining the race track. Steady stream of cars coming into the facility. Could hear nothing outside until you entered the casino. Friendly, happy crowd. Relatives who live there said that none of the predicted things the naysayers said would happen happened, and Ocean Pines has enjoyed about a million in additional revenue since the casino has been there. Nice to know that there is now another option when I go to visit.

I think you have it right on, That provision of the license would indeed have cost jobs in the hospitality sector of Gettysburg. You could play if you were not staying there by buying a number of other services including food, It would have had an impact for sure on restaurants losing business for those that wanted to play. That's a great hypothetical but to you I would say where was your desire to save those restaurants from Aramark when the new VC was being built? Where was the outrage? Where is the outrage now that it's been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the new services at the VC ARE ACTUALLY (not hypothetically) hurting local businesses? Thanks for coming back to show us that perpetuating double standards and hypocrisy are still part of NCG's mission. AMEN! I will add the t-shirt and trinket sales of the VC, that surely must have added to the number done on those Steinweir businesses by the VC...
