While we are mentioning the "West Side" of town - is it just me, or do most Towns' West Side seem to be the "other" side? North Baltimore City (and Baltimore County for that matter) was the more exclusive part of town. The East was the more blue collar section, and the South was sort of the stepchild. But, West Baltimore was where the riff-raff ended up. At least, that was my take on it. Now maybe it is just a matter of Geography - the Layout of the Land, if you will. But I wonder if this is true of other Regions. The Nation as a whole seems to have begun like this. The High Class Northerners, the Eastern Seabord Workers, the South was looked at as inferior... and the West was left to the crazies, squatters, and pioneers. Is there a pattern to this? Are we Predisposed or Prejudiced in our Psyches to feel that UP is better, than DOWN? Right is Superior to Left? The Good Witch was, from the North. The Wicked Witch... WEST, of course! West Side Story was not about the Fine Life. I mean, think about it: Father, Son, Holy Ghost... God gets top billing, Jesus gets South. The East gets the Spirit, and all the West gets is a lousy Adjective .

Which side of Baltimore were you on Venter, that might explain things I doubt that BV was from Roland Park or Greenspring Valley.

No surprise to hear that I was Dundalk, SouthEast Baltimore County - born and bred! Blue Collar, scrappy, don't take shit, "we'll handle it ourselves" kind of attitudes. Usually given shit by the "better neighborhoods", but we'd punish their asses in contact sports - not polo

Venter...Fort Holabird ring a bell for ya? Hell yeah! Lived about four blocks away. Went swimming at the Officer's Pool when my sister was married to a Marine Captain. She drove to the gate in her '67 Dodge Charger Fastback, and the MP would snap to attention and salute (of course, her husband was a Pilot, what else would he drive?) That was pretty damn cool to a 13 year old! Hell, that would be pretty cool to this 57 year old!
