Looking for our annual Jack-o-lantern but don't want to pay a fortune for something that's going to be mush in a couple weeks. Who has the best deal on pumpkins this year?

Just kidding!!!!! I have never bought a pumpkin because someone in our family usually grows them. I did see some nice sized ones at Walmart for 3.88 I believe.

I would try Hollabaughs(sp) around Biglerville/Arendtsville area.

I just read that you should NOT remove the Stem! Leave the stem in place (the larger, the better) because it still feeds the pumpkin for a while. You cut an access hole from the BACK, to remove the guts and stuff.
I guess you would need to use a different light source than a candle, but that's probably a good idea anyway.

Stopped by the Adams County Farmers Market at the Outlets this morning and found wonderful big pumpkins for only $4. Little, pie-making-size-ones were $1.50. Now that's a reasonable price for pumpkins. I happened to stop by Wally-world (in Hanover) later today and they had some too. They were marked down to $5 from $7.50, but they were already showing signs of mushiness (is that a real word?). Anyway, we've found our 2012 jack-o-lantern and I'm psyched to start carving!
