A few days ago I ordered a Red Ryder BB gun on Amazon. There is a little kid in all of us. It arrived yesterday. I unpacked the box and then sadly read the following words stamped on the barrel, "Made in China". I wonder if the Red Ryder that little Ralphie finally got on Christmas was also made in China.

I don't blame businesses for going overseas at all. We need to make the smart business decision to be making things here in the U.S.. Business needs to do what is best or someone else will and you'll be a done business.

I don't blame businesses for going overseas at all. We need to make the smart business decision to be making things here in the U.S.. Business needs to do what is best or someone else will and you'll be a done business. I just saw a part of a Forum on TV last night [came in late, left early]. The President of University of Virginia was there, Steve Case (from AOL) and a Senator or Governor of VA. The gist of it was this: · Our Nation allows an Educational Visa for foreigners - they take advantage of this to attend our great Universities. · If undergraduates wish to continue with Graduate School, then they'll go for their Masters at UVa. (I believe the Pres. of UVa said that UVa, is a public institution and that Virginians had first dibs and then others in the US, and finally foreign students that qualify) · US Students tend to find worthwhile jobs in their respective fields, after receiving their Masters Degree. They are often satisfied with the benefits of employment, holding only their Masters - so their is little incentive to follow through with a PhD at that point. · Foreign Students, however, have their Visa, so they'll remain in the US and continue through with their PhD's. · Something like 85 - 90% of the applicants, and accepted, are foreign... many are Chinese. Since our students don't normally follow straight through with PhD's, the Universities will fill up with Foreign Students. · After receiving their PhD's, we then ship them back to their Country of Origin - we don't necessarily offer them Work Visas. · When they return to their homelands, they use their education to become DIRECT COMPETITORS with US Businesses and Organizations. In effect, what we are encouraging is a "Brain Drain" and exporting it to the rest of the world - instead of Capitalizing on this Education by allowing them to remain in service to THIS Nation for many years to come. I believe that Steve Case suggested a 10 year Visa system that would allow us to benefit from their educational experiences - instead of tossing them away. So here we are, educating them. but not letting them fulfill the rest of their "American Dream". No wonder we end up getting Hacked by the Chinese - they feel betrayed. - and they're pissed. And all along the way, we've essentially educated them with the means to retaliate No matter what "weapons" we manage to provide foreigners, somehow it always ends up biting us in the ass.

But Ventor, we would be encouraging people who are not like us ( sarcasm) to try to remain in this country!

Getysbg, I guess it's okay if they are allowed to remain here to clean our sheets and tend our fields. I've mentioned our own "Gettysburg Brain Drain" before. Our children are offered a pretty good education in our region. They then go off to College (can't afford the in-town school). They continue their education and then never return home because of our dismal job market. The region is kept in an artificial vacuum, caused by the sucking sound of the GNMP, and created by people who value the Past over our Future. It's amazing where the discussion goes with just a gripe about a Red Ryder BB Gun ;D Actually, I think we HAVE "shot our eye out"
