In another thread, we were discussing the Krystal Cadillac Site: boroughvent.proboards.com/post/13357Since it may get buried there, I wanted to let it have its own Topic here. Jun 25, 2013 12:30:06 GMT -4 Venter said: Davew, You had to mention the old Krystal Cadillac Property...

Presume the second property was just his residence?
I don't know if that might be a Gettysburg school district address. Angela Pappas was in my grade at school, she was a nice girl, nothing untoward about her.
That aside, I'm just as curious as anyone about what's going to happen with that spot because you would thinkthat's a super prime spot...on 30 and with a front drive that's literally right next to north and south exits on 15.
I wonder what's going to happen with the old driving range and tower property next to it, too. It seems like it should only be a matter of time before that's actually used for something productive.

Well, isn't his timely. In today's Times police report... Maybe they need to look for them in that expanse of WEEDS! Or maybe they just rusted into the earth. I can't believe that Gettysburg is as laid-back as it is. If this were most any other town, if a property had become as uncontrolled as this, it would have been squatted on - and the local kids would have had a field-day with those huge windows! "Sometime between mid-March and June 18"?I guess that means that when they came up here to look at the property, concerning the Sheriff Sale, they actually looked around. I'm NOT condoning any illegal activities and vandalism that may have occurred at the location, but a Police Report? Just chalk it up as a few things you don't have to PAY someone to remove for you. They probably expected that most of the stuff would be gone by now, as it would have been in many towns (as I mentioned). That would have saved a ton on junk hauling fees. Guess they'll have to clean it up themselves?

Another thought... totally my own ramblings... Maybe, just maybe, someone began "inquiring" about purchasing that property. Once they started scratching around, Straban became more interested in moving along with that Property. Since there have been so many roadblocks placed on the "Super-WalMart-Whatever-it-may-be" Property across from Sheetz, maybe some Developer realized that the battle for land should be easier at an already-approved commercial site. Of course, wait until Straban Township Counselor, Walton Davis notifies them that... " Since the Property has not been used as Commercial Property for a period longer than one year, the Zoning REVERTS back to its Original Designation as FARMLAND!"Or something to that effect. Just watch... this is just getting started.

Yeah, I'll believe that something will show up in either place when it actually does.
The Krystal site has been overgrown for almost 20 years, at least in the back. The back of it was weeds and part cars when I was still working at the driving range. Granted I live in suburbia now, but that would've been taken care of back then by the locals.
As far as parts go, if it looked recently like it did when I used to see the stuff in the back, probably any dishonest person could've gone and just taken parts off of cars. It was like a junkyard, and I'm surprised with scrap steel prices like they have been for the last decade that nobody has stolen everything in the open there.
I don't understand why there were even parts still there this long on, or what shape they would've been in.
As far as the police report, though, it might be required to make an insurance claim.

Gross...
(i know that's not a popular opinion here).
I work not too far from a casino now. I wouldn't want a filthy casino that close to my parents' house. (NIMBY alert) Put it on the other side of town.

Looked around a little bit online yesterday, and there is a bizarre string of court cases between Krystal Cadillac and GM and GMAC about contracts and ability to sell franchise rights. Some of it 10 years after they were no longer selling GM cars. Just bizarre ...looks like it dragged on from 1994 through the early/mid 2000s.

I think a casino would be perfectly grand right there. Of course the traffic would suck but, oh well, economic development is good. Right?

Well, what happened with the property? I don't see it on september's docket so either it sold, or it just hasn't been moved to a later sale.

SO I saw a headline on the Times's website (I don't pay for full access) that said "designer" is planning to run for a seat on the Cumberland Twp. board of supervisors. What are the odds that he wins?

If Paddock wins I may seriously consider moving to Florida near my Uncle Bill. I think Mom would like living on the west coast of Florida.

I saw a crew mowing and cleaning up a couple of days ago. There was also a big tow truck there. Bing’s bird’s view shows about 12 old cars behind the buildings plus 3 semis. Maybe it is about to be listed for sale? Or the new owner is cleaning it up?

Thanks for the update Leeroy. I noticed it was looking pretty good too, but then again, compared to what it looked like before, anything looks good.
Anybody have any new info to add? Why is it that the only two viable business districts in the Gettysburg Area are run by a bunch of dickheads in Straban and Mt. Joy? Wait, add the Borough to that list.

There is a "zoning notice" sign next to the Camp Letterman monument. Anybody know anything? Can never seem to stop due to tailgating idiots.

I had heard that one issue was to obtain decent access to 30, or to have a light installed... something like that. PennDot needs to get involved, so we all know what that means. I don't know... Maybe if there were a PROPER NOTICE POSTED!!! boroughvent.proboards.com/thread/1093/zoning-notices-adams
