If I didn't fuck up the entire Page, here is the LINK to the latest, greatest BoroVENT!It is called "Borovent Gettysburg", and I hope it will become our new home. Please join us there. BoroVENT GettysburgThanks for your interest. I figure the other sites, especially the OLD, Original Forum, will cease to be accessible. This one may remain up and running... boroughvent.proboards.com/but the older one may disappear... www.boroughvent.com/PunBB/forum/viewforum.php?id=3So, hopefully I'll see all of you there. Gene/Venter

Can you be anonymous on facebook? I'm not in a position to have people on here know who I am. Sorry.

Can you be anonymous on facebook? I'm not in a position to have people on here know who I am. Sorry. You can have more than one Facebook account. If you don't want to join under your real name you can set up another account under a fake name. Or, just to make it interesting join up under your real name AND your fake profile and argue with yourself.

I doubt it will go over. When the Evening Sun switched from Topix to the Facebook style comment section...it drove away all the participants because of the lack of anonymity. On Topix there would be some fierce debates, now hardly anyone says a word about anything. That wasn't a good thing, IMO.

I like this better too, but Facebook is free, and more people are connected there anyway.

For whatever reason, I can't understand Facebook. I'll have to stay here or drop out. Sorry.

Not saying I won't try it at some point. It does have some advantages like using a powerful Social Media platform to get your message out and people can network. That is important to me, so we'll see.

I am not going to complain and I completely understand the reason for switching to FB. But, I probably won't make an alter ego to participate. But, I won't say never. Venter, you do what works and is easiest for you to deal with. I'm not going to fault you for it!

I totally understand. I used to call Facebook "FuckFaceBook".
But now I'm addicted, maybe too much so. I do realize that I don't make the "effort" to go to BoroVENT.com as much, since I've been on FB.
I need to check out what all of the pros and cons are. It just seems easier to concentrate on ONE site. Who knows, they may be able to exist at the same time.

Not that I participate much here anymore as it is, but I won't be taking the time to make an alter ego Facebook account to participate the new FB Boroughvent. Good luck Gene.

I also wouldn't go to facebook regardless of the reason. Not due to anonymity, I just won't get on facebook.

Just curious why some of you don't want to sign up for the Facebook site? I most likely will use an alter identity when I join. It is a way to maintain a sense of anonymity just like here. I like the idea of maintaining both sites but I also understand what a pain in the ass that can be. For either site I believe it will be a place where our opinions are noticed.

You guys freaked out about the "youtu.be" link (which was genuine) where you should be freaking out more about the hidden dangers of facebook. There's more malware in facebook than fungus on a boys locker room floor. Other than productivity leeching, why do you think most responsible IT departments block facebook? Oh, and Gene. Here's a handy graphic on how to make money while using facebook! No need to thank me!

Other than Venter, I think that I am the only one who has my name posted anymore so I'm not worried about FB for that reason. For me, I can't get the hang of using it. I just don't understand it's mechanics. Nancy gave me "Facebook for Dummies" for Christmas and it didn't help. I guess I'll have to wait for the "FB for the Really Challenged" to come out.

I don't know if I freaked out redlock, but I sometimes am overly cautious when it comes to anything on the internet. If you don't want exposure to malware, viruses, etc. then don't go online. The best virus, malware, spam protection in the world won't protect you against everything. Just think about the NSA scandal and the Target debacle. Where I work Facebook is blocked (along with a slew of other internet sites) on work computers, but they have a Facebook site that I can access outside of work. Personally I think it's blocked because they don't want 90% of their employees playing Candy Crush on their time. And NO, I don't play Candy Crush or any other games!

Okay, here is the latest... The initial Gettysburg Facebook, I mistakenly started as a "Page". Evidently I wanted to start is as a "GROUP" So now, HERE is the link to the IMPROVED SITE. It will be easier to follow and use: BoroVENT Gettysburg on Facebook
So, does anyone want to take over the reigns of THIS Site - BoroVENT.com? Let me know what you think about that possibility! Should I even consider it?

I'll be keeping this BoroVENT Forum open for quite some time. There is just a slight cost in keeping it. Who knows what will happen. I'll continue to check in, and probably "Share" some Topics with our Facebook Group BoroVENT Facebook Group
The OLD Bvent site will be closing down completely. If you want to save any old posts, I think there are a few days left... but don't wait. Original Boroughvent Forum

Gene/Venter After 26 months since we moved from our Orrtanna home and with Venter deciding to go to a FB-based package, I've decided it's time to say goodbye. I realize he's keeping this site open for awhile but my in-town news source is moving to a retirement facility in York County so adieu and good luck to all.
BTW: I saw a Sunoco station in Greenville, SC yesterday selling regular for $2.93.

As we are getting a little used to the different formats, it looks like BOTH have their advantages.
Our Facebook Group is growing at a faster rate than the Forum ever did. Don't know if that's good or bad - it just is.
It is harder to follow any certain Topic on the FB page than it is here. But, more people are aware of our issues.
Both are staying, and all are welcome to continue posting either place. We'll try to share back and forth if you don't want to travel to the Facebook Page.

Will everything be posted on both sites if the initial post is only on one? Not really interested in having to post twice and boucing back and forth to keep up with the discussion.

I don't think that's possible. If you look at the recent discussion about the Discovery project and TIF financing, you'll see that the format here (.com) is much easier to follow. But the upside of the FB Site is the wider audience where people are already downloading their daily info feed. If I, or anyone else, feels that a particular Topic needs sharing on FB, please do so. And vice versa - if a Facebook article needs a link to here.
