Bobrovsky in net tonight. Unbelievable. I'm not sure they would be in trouble for LTIRing Lappy. The league let them get away with if for 3.5 years with Rathje and there was never, ever, any chance of him playing again. I guess in light of recent events the league may be a little more strict but there is a precedent for it.

Loved Bob getting the start. At some point these players need to go from skilled prospects, to skilled NHLers, why not now?
Rathje made attempts to come back, but never could. We both know, as well as everyone else, that Lappy is done. That's the difference.
Good win last night. Also good to see Carter picking up where he left off, missing open nets.

Rathje made no attempt the last 2 years he was on the LTIR. None. He was off fishing in Canada. I was very surprised to see Bartulis last night. Does that mean that Walker, the jewel of the Gagne trade, is now 8th on the depth chart making 1.7? Lavy is wise to Carter. Only 15 min of ice time last night

Try this on for size Blonde:
Not only will Leighton need surgery for what has now gone from bulging disk to herniated disk (8 weeks), but he admitted it first came up in the playoffs but he did not complain about it to the Flyers until he was in severe pain during summer workouts.
AFTER he got his contract.
I knew signing this guy was a mistake. Is there any doubt now he burried the injury to cash in on his performance?

Zherdev is going to be a bust too Blonde. He hasn't changed at all. I've watched every minute of every game so far and the guy is invisible. I was at the game last night with my wife and after he got rocked in the first period I told her he'd be invisible for the rest of the game and he was. Between his money, Walker's money (hasn't dressed yet), and Shelley's money we didn't need to lose Gagne and we'd be better off as a team. I'm firmly in the fire Homer camp now.

Holy hell typical Philadelphia fan. It's three games into the season and already Zherdev is a bust and you want to fire Holmgren? Come on Rainier, don't be that guy. They play 80 games, not 16.

You want me to give the benefit of the doubt to a player that is so lazy that 16 months ago none of the 30 teams in the NHL wanted anything to do with him? The only two players averaging less ice time are Carcillo and Shelley. That should tell you something. He's already copping an attitude with the coaching staff over his ice time and won't talk to the media. One thing about being a life long Philly fan is that you learn to spot a bum when you see one and Zherdev is a bum. The Devils are a mess.

I'm sure they'll win one eventually. As you say, it's a long season. Too many changes, too many new coaches (four in as many years), not enough defense. The only redeeming feature is a Center Ice freebie on Dish so I can watch them stink up the ice.

Yeah, the guy was just terrible in Colombus and NYR /sarcasm. So he doesn't have the greatest defensive awareness, I don't give a f~(< as long as he scores goals. Danny boy is lacking in the category as well.
I haven't seen anything printed about him copping an attitude about PT. I've seen reporters ask about it, but nothing from Holmgren et al. As far as not talking to the media, GOOD! The Philly hockey beat writers, sans Meltzer, are nothing but shit stirring hacks. Look at the hatchet job they did to Richards last year. Can you blame him? I sure as shit wouldn't talk to them either. F*ck them, let them whine about it in the papers some more the c0(< gobbling homos that they are.
I'm not going to have a football mentality about a hockey player 3 games into the season, it's 3 f*cking games out of 80.

239 points 369 games into his career with a -46 hardly makes him Gretzky. Actually, it doesn't even make him.... Gagne. It certainly doesn't get him a pass from me for floating around the ice aimlessly for large stretches of the game. Even his KHL numbers from last season we unimpressive. The guy has no heart and that can't be taught. I'm not looking at 3 games, I'm looking at his whole career up to this point.
Anonymous, how does NJ get away with not even dressing the league minimum required players for a game? That amazes me.

Rainier, I'm taking the wait and see attitude. Players change, they mature and they miss the lure of the $$ and spotlight of the NHL. How soon we forget that Emery was banished to the KHL, yet was one of the best goalies in the league last year until his injury.

Bump.
Zherdev is looking more like a bust, but he's not getting the minutes either and he's the least of the Flyers problems right now.
The Captain and the booze hound need to start playing hockey. Both are playing exactly like last year and I find it hard to root for these assholes.

Bob's the real deal too. "probably the quickest goalie I have seen in my life" Kimmo. "I've never seen anything like him" Carcillo

Briere got 3 games for this, 3 f*cking games. Rypein grips up a fan and only gets 6 and Briere gets 3 for this, WHAT A JOKE!!! I'm also glad that Briere did what he did, I just wish he got a better piece of Neilsen. If this team would just assume the identity that they're built around instead of cowtowing the league they would run over everyone.
The NHL is run by a bunch f*cking idiots. Hockey will continue to be a fringe sport as long as Bettman and Cambell are in charge.
Clarke for NHL commissioner.

Agree about Bobrovsky. Looks terrific. Disagree about Briere. I was gonna post something saying he will be suspended after viewing the "clip" the next day and got distracted. He deserves it, regardless of what the guy did to the fan. That event is not relevant to this one. The game was long over, nothing to fight about at that point.

They are related, they both involve plays where suspensions were handed out. Briere deserved 1 or 2 games at the most, Rypien should have gotten at least ten. If you can't see this then I don't know what to say. As for nothing to fight about, did you watch the game or hear the post game interviews? If not, then shut up because there was plenty to fight about..... which brings me to the insanely retarded 'message sending' rule. Neilsen deserved what he got and I'm happy that Briere did what he did.

Here's the bottom line on Briere. He's a repeat offender and he should have gotten two. He got three because the NHL didn't want him to play Saturday in the Isles rematch. Book it.
I'd give anything to be able to hear what Pronger was saying to DiPietro. At the end it looks like he says "alright go ahead" before letting him go because apparently Rick said he would go with Carcillo

They would get a ton of free local news between NY and Philly with a buildup to this game if Briere WASN'T suspended. Instead, it'll be just like any other early season game that no one gives a shit about.

Yeah but if you're Bettman and Campbell you're afraid because the big bad Flyers are involved and the game may go goon, embarrassing the league. Their thought process, not mine

And JVR sucks, Nodl and Wellwood have both been playing far better than him. I'm starting to think he's going to be a bust.

Z with some nice patience on that goal. Lavy needs to find this kid some regular minutes on a line with regular mates. I know he makes some boneheaded plays, but it doesn't make sense to have a player with his talent ride the pine. He looked good last night with Carter and JVR, real good. Speaking of JVR, he's been 10X better since the benching, thank god. And I almost forgot, f*ck Dspitz and his Penguins. They had nothing for the Flyers at even strength last night, nothing.

Zherdev is still a waste of space. You only notice him on this ice 3 seconds before he scores. And have you noticed when he scores there's no big hugs or group celebrations?
I was right about Nodl all along. Give me some love
