It is John from the current DQ on York Rd. It will be in the old hobby shop and will be managed by his two adult daughters. He had leased to required amount of parking spaces from the Wax Museum.

Glad to see another business going in there but how many ice cream shops do we need on that part of town??
And why do you have to have so many parking spaces per businesses? As long as there is some sorta parking along the streets for everybody

Leeroy, Welcome to BoroVENT! I wonder if the Borough ever counts how many spaces are "Leased" from other businesses throughout town? Mr. G's had to "lease" spaces nearby his location on Baltimore Street. Is there a list kept by the Borough, or will there be 200 spaces "leased" in a 100 space parking lot somewhere? Who actually believes that people who want to go to the Dairy Queen will park two blocks away?

And I would think the parking spaces for the businesses might be more for the owners/workers to have a place to park when they come to work every day. I would think the Steinwehr Avenue location would have mostly foot traffic for customers anyhow.

As long as there is some sorta parking along the streets for everybody Considering the size of the building, it should be more than just the run-of-the-mill DQ but one of their 'complete service' models. Only real competition I see in the area is Friendly's. As to parking, other retail places don;t have that restriction. Nor do other food places that are take-out only ( Kilwin's, etc) The Hotel doesn't have it's own parking for it's customers. So why should any restaurant have them?

Because the other, established stores are "Grandfathered In"! That's a nice way of saying, "They're allowed to have insufficient parking because we didn't worry about restricting parking when they first opened." "Your Sign can't be as big, because they were here first." "Now that we think we know better, everyone else can just go suck eggs." Even though these are the SAME Buildings where other businesses once existed, evidently they can no longer sustain business or handle parking issues, as they used to when Gettysburg was a busier town!

Has anybody tried Sidney at Willoughby's Run, the new restaurant that opened up in the Country Club? I have heard very good things but it is also very pricey.

The "pricey" part is the main reason we haven't gone there. The other is that 'pricey' restaurants tend to put very little food on the plate. We go out to eat so that we can EAT, not just look at the food and say "Aw, how pretty..."

Sydney closed a few months ago. My wife and I went there a few weeks prior. It was OK but was a bit much for the area. I could not see how it could be supported. I do enjoy their food at their other location every once in a while

How can the boro require a business to provide parking when it simply doesn't exist and the business/property simply doesn't have the resources available? I can not believe they require such a ridiculous requirement given the infrastructure limitations.

Surprised at comment that Sidney's is closed. They were open last week. Large sign out front and flags promoting being open for lunch. Also, if they have been successful in East Berlin, which is much smaller than Gettysburg and lacks the tourist's, why would they not be successful here? Their advertising has been practically nill, which I believe is intentional while they see what works and what doesn't.

It's evident by the grossly over-sized billboard signs they had in front of their "Upscale Establishment" during the re-enactment. Are you referring to another one?

I agree, those signs were definitely out of place at an upscale establishment. I half expected to see Shrek waving at me from the top of them..... Quite a contrast to that classy sign at another establishment slightly farther west.

OK Lifesaver brought it up and I gotta ask. Venter, I read the classy sign out in front of the place at Herr's Ridge and Rte 30. I gotta ask, is there a typo? I always called it Herr'S Ridge, not Herr Ridge. In fact the road sign says Herr'S Ridge. So, why is the place called The Inn at Herr Ridge?? Just to be clear, I do like the sign.

Just to be clear, I do like the sign. ... and my address uses Herrs Ridge, without the apostrophe! I can't figure that out any more than I can understand why the locals call it " THE Chambersburg Road", or " THE Fairfield Road". I can understand "Oak Ridge"... but maybe the term "Herr Ridge" comes from the same logic, as in "THE Herr Ridge!?. It's not HIS Ridge, they just identify it with him? Rockefeller Center, (not Rockefeller's) Times Square (named after the Times), Lincoln Square. And you've heard the term, "it's written in stone", well that part of the sign is carved and gilded, so the AREA will change names before the sign does BTW, there are a few issues with the installation of the Herr/Herr's/Herrs/His Sign - so it's not completely complete yet. A little adjustment is in order, but that is the ground crew's part of the job. (or the ground's crew; or the ground screw... )

Another point:
The INN belonged to Mr. Herr, so it was "Herr's Tavern". The Ridge was named because it was "the ridge where the Herr Tavern/Farm/Home/Landmark was located.
Easier than saying "That hill, west of town, on the Chambersburg Road, at the intersection of... No, the NEXT Hill!"

So after all that diatribe, you didn't answer my question....did you screw up? The establishment goes by The Inn at Herr Ridge? It just seems odd to drop the "s". But, since you caste it in stone (or whatever the heck it was you tried to impress me with) I guess I will attempt to say it properly

I have friends that have a last name similar to another last name in town, except for the "s" at the end. When asked if their last name was the name with the "s" they said, "No, we can't afford the "s". By the way, I think it's an awesome sign. BTW, check out the eyes on the soldiers sometime.
