This Topic just hit 4,500 Views! Let's see if we can get it back on track... Surely there is a new business that can use some bumps. On that note: I've heard that Beanie's Shoe Repair will be leaving the region sometime around the beginning of 2014 (Gettysburg and Hanover) He is moving his business to Maine. He will still be doing shoe repairs and stuff through the internet. (I think you'll have to mail the shoes though ) Still have no idea what will be replacing the Getty Gas Station where he is currently located in Gettysburg. Anybody know?

And I guess now, no Turkey Hill It is unimaginable to me that they don't put a Sheetz, Rutters, or Turkey Hill on the West side of town. We got nothin' except the PDQ on that end of town until you get to the Rutters in Fayettevile. But it seems Straban is all over a 2000 unit upscale retirement community when they haven't gotten the shopping complex off the ground.

I drove past the old bank on the Biglerville Road today and saw they are tearing it down, what are they going to do with that piece of land?
Since they are tearing down that building it would be nice if they would go just down the street and tear down the Exxon gas station that is sitting empty.

Question - Are there programs out there that assist in the financials of reclamation of already existing properties as opposed to building on virgin land? I am sure there are but how can they be identified?

They are NOT tearing it down, they are renovating it. It will become a Convenience Store (I think that's what you'd probably call it) and it's owned by the same family that has Deliso's Pizza. Milk, bread, sodas, snacks, etc.

Municipalities, school districts, etc., can eventually force a Sheriff's Sale due to delinquent taxes (if any), and the new Buyer can make a good deal from the sale. The price of the property alone may offset the costs of improving it for use. Maybe (really don't know WHAT they do) the Adams County Economic Development group has a program?

The Little Red Schoolhouse is back in business. It's been a restaurant for years but recently closed due to the owner's death. New owners. They're open Wed-Sun 6:30-1:30. Located on 116E in Brushtown. Not exactly in town but still a locally owned business.

Hmmm, maybe that's not a good way to determine "local", or we couldn't drive through town! 116 East toward McSherrystown/Brushtown/Hanover = Local Past UTZ... not-so-much. 116 West toward Fairfield/Carroll Valley = Local Greensboro... not-so-much. 34 North toward Biglerville/Aspers = Local Carlisle... not-so-much. 34 South toward Wherever the Hell it Goes = Local Littlestown... not-so-much. Route 15 North toward Hunterstown/Heidlersburg/East Berlin = Local Dillsburg... not-so-much. Route 15 South toward Maryland/Liquor Store across State Line = Local Emmitsburg... Pushing it. Thurmont... not-so-much. 30 East toward New Oxford/Right to Hanover = Local Any further than that... not-so-much. 30 West toward Herrs Ridge Road = Local I believe that's where 30 West ends, isn't it?

That's very true as the only Greensboro that immediately comes to mind is the one in North Carolina. Perhaps you meant Greencastle? Very parochial, Venter.

Or he might Greenstone and usually only a long timer local knows where that is.

I went down to visit my friends at Little Dels Mini Mart (the former bank on the Biglerville Rd.) this afternoon. The mini mart will be on the side of the building toward Gettysburg. The addition in the front will be Mia Capelli, Maria's hair salon.
I'm excited to see both completed because Maria does my hair and the mini mart will be handy because I always need something else from the store.
Just learned today that someone stole the flooring for the shop from the building last night. All of the building was locked except the shop area because the window hasn't been installed yet. Damned shame.

Yes, it's been around for awhile now. They store their explosives up my way on a piece of property that they purchased (quite the setup for security and storage to insure safety at the site), about a mile or so from my house. Breaking into Fort Knox would be easier. That doesn't mean it hasn't made for lively discussion at some of the supervisors meetings and a new ordinance proposed for the storage of explosives.

That place looks like a blast. May need to stop by and see their firearms & ammo. I guess they have these at their Gettysburg location...??

Hmmm... They know how to spell "nitroglycerine", but not "vessel". At least they have their priorities straight!
Let's hope they spell-check "explore" and "explode". I'd much rather see them "Explore Possibilities" or "Explore Downtown Gettysburg"...
